A Family Sanctuary Built for Togetherness

The Gong family’s early years of struggle instilled in them a deep sense of family values. Mr. Gong believes that home is a place of faith, and for a large family, cohesion is essential. It is through sharing and interaction that family members build deeper connections with one another.

The interior design is grounded in a minimalist style with natural wood tones. There are few items or decorations that carry strong personal traits, with only select artworks and paintings hanging in the corners. These complement the gentle sway of the water plants on the table, adding a subtle touch of life.

In the Gong residence, the designer thoughtfully created several communal spaces to foster interaction and connection among family members. From the living room, one can easily see the children’s play area, allowing adults and kids to communicate freely and for the adults to respond quickly to the children's needs. The reception room on the top floor always offers a cosy corner where thoughts can settle comfortably.

Nearly every space the eye meets provides a place for rest, creating an atmosphere where sharing happens naturally. Siblings exchange stories about business and parenting, while children joyfully explore their home, seeing the world through their innocent eyes as they discover the wonders of nature.

The exterior of the Gong residence is striking and refined, with irregular windows blurring the sense of height, making the home stand out boldly among the surrounding houses. Thanks to its unique façade, curious passersby often step into the courtyard, eager to explore. Mr. and Mrs. Gong warmly welcome them, sharing the stories behind their home.

The natural wood theme is extensively used throughout, with teak ceilings and staircases creating a rustic and gentle ambiance. The central air conditioning system in the living room is cleverly concealed within teak, adding a distinct texture and layered feel. The harmony between the indoor wood elements and the outdoor mountain scenery seamlessly integrates the colors of nature into everyday life.

Fresh, crisp vegetables on the dining table come from the family’s small garden, while the house is supplied with pure spring water from the nearby mountains, flowing continuously with its sweet, refreshing taste. Even the herbal bricks used in the building’s construction are made from a mix of straw and herbs, embodying a return to nature from the inside out.

Over the years, the lady of the house, Mrs. Gong, has cultivated a habit of seeking wisdom and clarity through every life experience, responding to her inner needs. She finds peace in the lingering echoes of the guqin and in the graceful flow of yoga, calming her anxieties and achieving inner tranquility. Here, everything, whether people or things, draws energy from nature, radiating vibrant life from within.

The designer daringly used irregular windows, appearing as if they were casually stacked like building blocks, but full of thoughtful details. Without the need for a fresh air system, the house seems to "breathe" on its own, as natural breezes continuously circulate indoors and out.

CIVRO’s exclusive MED surface treatment brings a fine texture, with approximately 8,000 hours of accelerated weather resistance and superior corrosion protection compared to traditional coating processes. Additionally, CIVRO’s MED surface offers a rich colour system. For the Gong residence, the selection of Glacier Silver pairs harmoniously with the indoor wood tones to create a balanced palette.

In honor of the stunning natural scenery of Yongjia village, the third floor of the Gong residence is equipped with CIVRO aluminium ventilation windows, extending the visual reach within the home. The combination of aluminium ventilation windows and large fixed windows creates the effect of two horizontal scrolls unfurling on the walls, framing the picturesque views outside. The large fixed glass windows break free from the limitations of traditional sashes, while the micro-ventilation of the aluminium panels promotes airflow, offering both function and beauty.

The top-floor hall is the Gong family’s favorite spot, a place for both viewing the scenery and relaxing. To bring even more natural light into the home, they chose CIVRO’s motorised narrow-frame skylights, which flood every corner with daylight. On clear days, the motorised top-hung skylights open up, welcoming the sunlight into the house, filling the room with warmth and serenity.

To ensure airflow while preserving the seamless continuation of the views, they selected CIVRO fixed windows paired with turn-and-tilt windows. When light rain falls, the window can be tilted inward, keeping the fine rain out while still allowing the gentle breeze to flow freely indoors. After the rain, the window can be fully opened, allowing the refreshing scent of grass and earth to fill every cell of the body.

Yongjia village, where the Gong residence is located, experiences a humid, wind-swept microclimate with unpredictable weather. In the summer, it is not uncommon for a sudden rain shower to pass through. CIVRO’s excellent water and air tightness keeps moisture at bay, ensuring that the wooden furniture and interior décor remain dry and well-preserved.
