From Blueprint to Bliss: A Journey in Creating the Perfect Home
With similar life philosophies and lifestyles, Mr. Li and designer Shao bonded instantly when they first met, feeling as though they had known each other for years. This simple yet comfortable home is the result of their joint efforts. From structural renovation to exterior design, from expanding natural light to redefining functional spaces, the transformation of the entire building was a thorough rejuvenation.Unlike mainstream designs, the interior does not adhere to a specific style. Instead, they chose a versatile light gray as the main color, light and calm, harmoniously integrating elements of the new Chinese style favored by the elderly with the minimalist design loved by the younger generation. To add more layers to the interior, the kitchen and dining area were elevated, and the ceiling was designed with undulating curves, breaking away from rigid straight lines.Every floor of the house features a dedicated activity space, creating areas for interaction and fostering a lively atmosphere. The full-suite design ensures that different family members can follow their own schedules without disturbing one another, balancing convenience with privacy. They believe that a cosy and warm home is not defined by lavish decorations or expensive materials, but by the most comfortable living experience. This comfort, of course, is inseparable from the natural elements of light and air. The house, located in Wuxi, faces a humid climate with rainy summers and snowy winters, along with significant temperature differences throughout the year, making the selection of windows critical. The lighting was expanded, and a high-positioned fixed window was installed in the living room. The previously solid wall was opened up to its maximum potential, framing a window with CIVRO’s fixed window system. Through this window, the swaying shadows of trees, the setting sun, and the full moon are all brought into the home. CIVRO's corner connection process enhances the strength of the window frame, and its unique MED coating improves the weather resistance of the profiles. Even at high positions, the fixed window stands strong against wind and rain, ensuring peace of mind and ease of use.In the living room, CIVRO aluminum ventilation windows were chosen to combine interior airflow and outdoor views. The integrated screen keeps insects at bay, while natural breezes flow freely inside, gently tracing the lines of the room and carrying away the summer heat.Outside of the common areas, Mr. Li placed great importance on creating a restful environment, particularly in terms of sound insulation and heat retention in the bedrooms. Designer Shao selected CIVRO’s XD73 lift-sliding door as the partition between the master bedroom and the balcony. The door's lift function compresses the sealing strips, providing superior air and water tightness compared to traditional brush seals, greatly reducing the risk of water leakage. In addition to the fixed windows, the indoor spaces are fitted with CIVRO turn-and-tilt windows, offering both ventilation and ease of use. When tilted, the window allows airflow without letting in rain, and on sunny days, it can be fully opened inward to welcome the gentle breeze. For the activity area connected to the terrace, Shao chose CIVRO’s folding door as a bridge between indoors and outdoors. When fully opened and folded away, it blurs the boundary between interior and exterior, creating a seamless flow of space and light. While large glass areas offer transparency and openness, they also present challenges in terms of insulation. CIVRO addressed this by selecting glass with warm edge spacers made from materials with low thermal conductivity, effectively reducing heat transfer at the edges of the insulating glass. This ensures that, no matter the season or weather in Wuxi, the surface temperature of the glass remains close to the indoor temperature, preventing condensation and extending the glass’s lifespan.CIVRO also filled the insulating glass with argon gas, an inert gas with low thermal conductivity, to replace regular air and further enhance the glass’s insulation. For large glass panes, this solution also helps resist atmospheric pressure, ensuring the glass remains in optimal condition.Additionally, CIVRO's superior soundproofing system amplified the joy of family gatherings. After the completion of the new home, Mr. Li hosted a lively party for his friends and family. CIVRO’s excellent sound insulation allowed everyone to celebrate without worrying about disturbing the neighbors, creating an immersive experience of shared joy in their new space.
